    Duramax Diesel Question

My son has a 2014 Duramax and is looking at more than likely a cracked head. He had a low coolant light on and found a leaking radiator so replaced that and all hoses. After that the low coolant light still came back on and it appears the coolant all went inside. He pulled glow plugs and no water there which is good but it wouldn’t go over 10pt and was blowing white smoke. He says there is not water in his oil but now looks like oil coming out the exhaust.

Bad part is he’s in South Carolina in Navy so I can’t get to truck to help troubleshoot either. His neighbor looked and he says it appears he has a cracked head gasket.

Does anyone else have any other thoughts? Also big question is on average what’s the cost of an engine rebuild verses dropping an entire new engine in it?

When I had my problem I had to use a pump to pressure up the system. Found my coolant line to the turbo leaking . I had to pull the egr cooler to get to the turbo line . So I deleted the egr while I had it apart . So if it was me I would start with getting a pump and pressure testing the coolant system . Most of the bad heads I read about leaked to the outside of the block and not internal .

Appreciate the advice I’ll pass that along to him. Anyone else?
