    Deer jerky in the oven

Is this how y’all make yours or in a smoker. What’s the best jerky seasoning kit at Academy or bass pro?

I have made it in the oven for about 30 years. I do not use a kit. I just start grabbing spices. I have never had any complaints.

Awesome. I read one article where they used ground venison as well. Any input on that?

I do not grind mine. I simply cut it thin. I like that better.

I have made jerky in my oven, a dehydrator and my pellet smoker. They all turn out great, but the best I ever made was in my pellet smoker. I also started using the Cabela's Jerky Kit about 10 years ago and been very happy with it.

John do you slice it about 1/4 “ thick? How long do you leave it in the oven?

Rough 1/4 by 1 inch strips. Depends on the oven. I set it to the lowest setting and then just cook it until I think it is done.

using a steak hammer and pounding it thin is easier than slicing. hi mountain kits are good.

Thanks bro. I’m probably gonna wait till after this heat wave is over. I don’t want use electricity unnecessarily. I’ve considered placing a small rack on my old smokey and trying that as well.

Hi Mountain jerky kit from I think Academy in the oven. After the first try you can adjust the amount of seasoning to your taste. Better than any store bought jerky you can buy.

This is sliced about 1/4 inch. If you use an oven you will need to crack the oven door slightly for the moisture to escape and not steam the jerky.

Like tpack said, of you do it in the oven, you need to crack the door to let the moisture out. I use a wooden spoon.

Ok. We have an electric oven. Can I place aluminum foil on the second rack to keep the drippings off the heating element ?

Hi mountain is the best I've used. I go 1 hr on smoker then finish on dehydrator. If you don't have dehydrator, the oven will work, but still smoke for an hour or two. I run the smoker between 125-150. Of course, you can do the whole thing on the smoker
