    Walleye lures

I’m going to Manitoba Bear hunting in late August. We can also fish. What are some good lures for walleye?

At last a guy from MN can offer value to a Texan.

Walleye tackle is extremely simple. I'll assume you have live bait. August bait preference is crawlers, leeches. Walleye are finicky and it is always a finesse game. You need to let them take it without feeling the weight of the hook. If it is august start fishing the first break. If it is getting hot for these fish they may move to mid lake reefs. Check your water temp. Deep breaks near shore. Mid lake humps, Where sand and rock substrate meet is always good. They come up shallow to feed at dusk. Usually not a mid day bite. Some lakes are tannin stained and can offer better day fishing.
Always use light line like a 6lb test. Fluorocarbon is a great leader for these fish. Protip, if you know they are there and shut off, change your jig color.

    1. Lindy live bait jig various sizes they do great over rocks without getting snagged. Fireball jigs by northland work great too.
    2. Troll slow (.9-1.7mph) with a "Lindy rig". This is a walking weight(1/4-3/4oz) behind a swivel and leader. Any combination you can think of works. August is good to put a blade on there. My all time favorite is slow death hooks behind an orange weight. You can drift too. Drift socks help slow the boat and can be homemade.
    3. Slip bobber, slip **** and octopus hook #4,#6 at dusk near rocks.
    4. Rapala shad rap for trolling faster off of rock piles. Reef runner and husky jerks are good cranks.
    5. If you can't have live bait try Berkeley gulp or power bait.

Double check the regs on Barbed hooks, live bait, and other stuff. Canada has always had a lot of regulations.

Where I'm from the Walleye is king.

Love the walleye and fishing. While stationed in So. Dakota I used a silver spoon casting from bank over gravel bed and/or trolling slowly in deeper water. Best tasting fish there is and I love crappie. Biggest 28" long, 8lb 9 oz. Longest fight I ever had on 8lb test line.

nocam7 has some great advice. They do love Canadian nightcrawlers too, if legal where you're going. And are great table fair.

Another Minnesotan here- I’ll second the advice above. Jig and a minnow is pretty solid all around followed by trolling with night crawlers and bottom bouncers.
These guys are great for shipping preserved shiners and crawlers packed in dirt substitutes.

Also, check and see if there are lake trout where you’re headed. They’re a hoot to jig up from deep. We use 1 oz or so bucktail jigs tipped with preserved herring.
Tons of great walleye lakes are full of lakers down deep that are rarely targeted.

Soaking in all the advice. I’ll be after walleye in a couple months.
