Alternatives to AirBNB & VRBO

You guys with a large family (I guess that is five or more these days), how do you find trustworthy houses/places to stay without renting two hotel rooms?

I'm soured on VRBO & AirBNB for now, simply because there is no real quality control. Like you guys, the fees drive me nuts and when I book something, it's 50/50 on whether it is clean, has a rotten neighbor, etc.

I may not love everything about hotel chains, but they do have paid staff who make sure all is as it ought to be and if it isn't, they are paid to make it right.

So is there an alternative for large families?

Only option I can think of is looking for individuals listing their property themselves and not through VRBO or AirBNB. Lot of folks list theirs on FB or have their own direct booking website. They usually don't charge you as many fees as the other 2 mentioned listing sites. You also don't have any support if something goes wrong.

Local real estate / property management companies, depending on your destination. We’ve done it this way for many years in Red River, NM. I would just do a Google search for these types of companies in the location you want to visit.

A lot of times the management companies will list through Air Bnb and VRBO, so you can locate properties there but rent directly. This is usually cheaper and less fees.

Check out Evolve. They suppose to have lower fees. We used them through Booking for a nice condo this summer at Fredericksburg.
