    What bug is this??

We live outside of town on 25 acres. These bugs are everywhere outside of our home - mostly near the front and back doors and in our garage. I sprayed insecticide and it kills some but they are everywhere - I have never seen these type of bugs before - advice?

The red makes me believe it’s a darker colored boxelder bug

Not certain but I think they are red shouldered beetle bugs (kin to boxelder). A little blast of dawn dish soap/water kills them dead instantly.

consensus on another forum is red shouldered bug - I will try the Dawn - thanks

Shape makes me think they're a variety of "Leafhopper"... I never knew about leafhoppers until this year... We were invaded by them in our bag garden. Flat could not keep the back patio/porch lights on at night... There would be swarms of them attracted to the lights... After some research, I found out there are more varieties of leafhopper bugs than all species of mamals, birds and fish COMBINED in the world!! Can't believe I'd never heard of them before now!! That wide head and long body makes me think that's what this one is too... One characteristic they exhibit is they will move sideways in addition to forward and backwards (kind of like a crab)... most insects do not move sideways... They'd roll around the stems of our pepper, tomato, and eggplant to avoid us... sneaky little suckers! Mixed up a little Dawn with some organic pyrethrin and it knocked 'em back in a couple days...

Agree with leaf hopper variety, had them on all over my garden.

Captain Jacks is a good option but it has to be sprayed on the bug.
Neem oil works ok as well as dawn.
If not concerned with using a pesticide sevin dust is the ticket.
