These companies pay instead of saying pizz off. I’d rather them spend 5 mil telling them to pizz off than to hand it over for no reason

Cheaper to settle than to take it to court. Our court system is broken just like our country!

You can't get an insurance company to pay the proper value on a totaled car, but they will pay 5.2 million to fix a health problem, that may cost $30,000 to take care of at todays rates. No insurance policy ever in history, that I know of covers health problems that may have been caused by a vehicle's owner. They can't even prove she got the HPV, from him in the car. Maybe they can prove she got it from him, but they can't prove when and where. But it really does not matter, since that's not what car is insured for.

This stupidity, opens the doors for insurance companies getting told they have to pay for pregnancies, or transfer of diseases, in cars, homes and businesses.

The insurance companies will have to write clauses stating in bold print they are not liable for such things, in most every insurance policy, or they will all shut their doors inside of five years.

The news stories on this case are not very clear on what happened.
I think what happened was she sued her boyfriend in Missouri state court alleging the STD and he probably made demand that GEICO defend him and pay her “damages”.

He and the woman then agreed to go to arbitration instead of a trial and when the arbitrator gave her a big award she sent it to Geico with a demand they pay it to her.

There is also a Federal lawsuit involving GEICO, the man and the woman. GEICO is alleging the man and woman have engaged in fraud, that the auto policy does not provide coverage for her STD damages, that they had sex lots of other places not just in the car and no proof when she contracted the STD.

Sure seems that GEICO would not owe anything on this but may take a while to get to the final result.

I don't think any of this holds up if even true.
