    Fishing guide recommendations, Cocodrie, LA

Looking for fishing guide(s) recommendations near Cocodrie, LA. A group of 10 guys will be heading to that area in the near future (dates to be determined) and I have been put in charge of lining up some guides. it will be first time in the area so I have absolutely nothing to go on whatsoever. Anyone have any experience in the area? Thanks in advance.

This isn't too far from Houma, is it? If not, then Capt. Steve Fleming is your guy if you can find a slot. I have been twice with him, and Mary has been three times (twice with me and once with the three amigas) and Michael.

Steve is also from down there in Rosenberg and rides a J and H Performance Outlaw.

Yes sir. We are actually staying in Dulac which is about halfway between Houma and Cocodrie. Thanks for the advice. I will look up Captain Steve.

I will be in Cocodrie in July. Been fishing in Dulac and Cocodrie for past 30 years. Great fishery.

        I use:

Austin is a great guy and knows the area well. He mostly guides out of Cocodrie, just a short drive through the marsh from Dulac. I am using him again in July and would not hesitate to recommend him.

You staying on 4 point road in Dulac? We had a camp there for 25 years. Just sold it last June. The launch is still a mess on 4 point.

I was born and raised in Houma. I have a good
friends son who is a guide and has been hammering the fish. Check him out on FACEBOOK Capt - Tim Ortego. If you want direct contact and introduction send me pm.

I fished with Steve last month and had a great time and caught a bunch of reds but just know going into it that he only fishes for reds…

Thanks for the additional recommendations. I will need more than 1 guide to accommodate everyone.

I'm not exactly sure where we are stating in Dulac. My buddy is in charge of that, he just told me to find some guides in the area.

Here is his website and info: https://www.game-oncharters.com/about

Tell him Kevin and Mary sent you.

It is true that he only fishes for redfish. The trout are further out in the gulf and they are not as big as Texas trout. With Steve spending as much time as he did in Texas he knows the fish in both places.

But sight fishing for redfish is one of the most fun things I have ever done. Perfect cross between hunting and fishing.

We have a group of 25-30 that go every year and we use Top Water Charters. All inclusive and fish for two days. It runs us $1500.00 a piece but that includes everything including tips but we always add tip on top. I’m sure we are getting a little discount since we book the entire camp but they do a great job. My guide is Juice. He’s a little rough around the edges but works is tail off and always puts us on fish! Will be there July 10-12 this year.

**Their camp is completely rebuilt and ready to go. It’s my understanding a lot of camps aren’t quite ready yet?

Man I miss fishing that area. We fished a lot of tourneys in the Lake De Cade marsh back in the day. Have fun and post pics.

Your going to find may good guides recommended. I would contact one guide and let him get the other boat or boats for you. Most are used to large numbers and have guides they like to fish with and share customers. May just be easier that way.

Thanks for the link. I will be contacting him soon. I agree on the redfish fishing. Most in our group prefer reds over trout....at least the catching part.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can make the dates work with the recommendations.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Thanks for the tip.

Right now the trout are running up to 3 pounds with a generous limit. Two of my friends boated 50 specks Sat in an hour. I'd go for trout first, then the reds. The guide can get you on the reds anytime. Btw, I think the redfish are better than specks fried.
