High Fencing vs Low Fencing small Property (What would you do)?

I’m having a back and forth debate on high fencing my property vs low fencing it. I live on 20 acres and the old barbed wire fence needs to go down. I’ve been contemplating to run the perimeter with a high fence to throw a few exotics for breeding purposes. The dilema is that I will be pretty much giving up my “backyard hunting” ground. Just trying to get some insight from folks who have high fenced their property any regrets? If I low fence it I will be running a 5 foot field fence. Could possibly try to throw black buck in a low fence maybe fallow as I’ve heard they won’t jump fences (not sure on that one)??? I like the high fence idea as it will bring more value and also security. If I high fence I will definitely throw some axis, fallow, & black buck just wouldn’t really be able to hunt my place no more is kind of a bummer since it’s a small property. I know it’s not a big property but looking at some exotics running around and the accomplishment of doing something I never thought I could do on my property is what gives me the urge to push forward with the high fence idea. What would you do?

20 acres is pretty small to have that many species and you will have to FEED, FEED, FEED.

I have a similar size piece of property that provides pretty good deer and hog hunting. No way I'd high fence it and loose my little hunting spot. That's a big reason I bought my place.

Yeah I already had that in mind I wouldn’t over load the place though maybe 10 head max. I have a friend who breeds axis on a 20 acre pasture and he said I can get away with a little more as long as I have the grass for it but I wouldn’t want to go much higher than 10 head total. I have pretty good grass and cover but would also be running different feed setups

High fence half of it and have the best of both worlds.

I high fenced 30 acres next to my home, I’ve got some bred does in there now. It’s probably has 20 acres of thick woods, I feed them plus they have lots of green to eat

I also forgot to mention. The property is a long rectangular piece and I live on the dead end of the road with my property bumping up to a bigger high fence ranch. I believe 450 acres. In other words half of my property on one side is already high fenced.

sounds like you need to figure out if you want to continue hunting it or turn it into a business. once you figure that answer out then you will have your answer

Dig a large tank and fish for high fenced black bass.

Hadn’t thought about doing this not a bad idea. I hunt the back part only as the front side is the one that has the high fence running down the side of it serves as a funnel for the deer to run through the back side

Our pens are .25-1.50 acres. I would do two pens of 2.5 acre or smaller. The bigger the pen the less calm your herd will be.

Sounds like a lot of money just to have yard pets that you will need to constantly feed. I’d low fence it and enjoy hunting the place. You can still put Blackbucks on it to look at.

Thing to factor in are you wanting to sale the animals or for your own consumption?.
How much money on feed would you be spending?

Personally, I would leave it low fenced
