I know $225/inch from 135-145 isn't very common... that's why we do the 3k up to 140 for so many people...

It's really designed so there are small jumps in the management class and not big price gagging jumps. It also benefits our operation in that... if someone constantly passes on mid 40's deer the entire hunt... and possibly comes back... to kill that 144 7/8... it's more expensive...

Believe it or not... "Trophy Hunting" is more prevalent in the management class than any of the other 10 inch slot classes.

      LOL

Ain't that the truth! Nothing like a group of competitive friends coming in on a group management hunt and they all want to kill a 139 7/8 so they can beat their buddies...and want the guide to "guarantee" them it won't go over into the next price bracket...

I'd rather guide a "trophy" hunt than a management hunt anytime...

Speaking of tips... what is the standard? Like 10-15% of the deer?

You can go to Pike county in Illinois, and pay 3500, and have a very good chance at taking a buck well close to 200 class. So why would somebody help manage someone elses ranch and only shoot a middle class deer?

Because for every person that shoots a 200" deer... there are 10,000 people that don't.

If it's a fully guided hunt and you are pleased with your guide I don't think $150-$250 is out of line for a 3 day hunt. 10% is nice but is probably excessive on a trophy hunt. That should include taking pictures of you/for you, possibly videoing, caping, skinning, quartering, etc.

Do the Ranches pay the guides a salary? $70 a day for 3 days aint all that much pay if thats all they get... or is it?

Yea... I agree... Tips are a personal thing...

10% on a management hunt isn't out of line... but you shouldn't think you have to tip someone when you are in the upper classes by the inch...

(If you do feel that way tell me beforehand so I can guide you!)

Just kidding... I've had guys tip the 10% on a monster deer and guides never forget it... Bob's gotten one or two of those and I think he would drive to houston and change the guy's tire if he asked...

our managements hunts were always 120 up to 140. Below 120 was considered cull.

I can not believe the prices on management hunts. These are deer you do not want in your herd and that much money? Holy Moly.... I am blessed I guess that I can shoot whitetails for the price of a tag here in Illinois.

A good friend of mine runs an outfitting service in Western Kentucky and only charges 6 dollars per scorable inch regardless of how high or low they score. Holy Moly is all I can say, hunting is getting expensive and the squeeze is going to happen.

Best of luck to those who can justify paying that kind of money for a few pounds of meat.

Most ranches pay $100-$150 a day. That's usually for 5am to 9pm and whatever needs to be done.

You definitely don't guide to get rich. You gotta like it.

Yeah... that's the going rate to guide...

It would be less if good guides weren't so hard to find...

Guides and number of deer are the two big bottlenecks in an operation.

There are thousands of people out there who want to guide... and tens that I want guiding.

Is your friend running his hunts on public land? Considering most of these places have literally invested mult-millions before ever selling a single hunt $2500 for an all inclusive 3 day hunt is not bad at all.
