Hard to tell from pick. Could be a shumard too. Not a pin

Banks of the Trinity river. I guessed Shumard originally but I haven’t seen them enough to know. Thanks for all the information guys.

Any easy way to remember white vs red: Red has points and so does the devil's pitchfork. White has rounded, like an angel's halo.

This simple key says Shumard oak, I haven't keyed it through my southern forestry book yet.

Shumard oak, common names are Schneck oak, Spotted oak.

And it looks like you have a disease called Brown spot.

Picture this app identifies all forage great app for a hunter.

I would say E Texas Swamp Red Oak. Location and bark to me identifies it over a Shumar’d.

These are from a shumard oak I planted a few years ago.

Yeah my second choice after research and what I’m leaning too after seeing the Shumard leaf pics

My plant ID app says it is a Black Oak- Quercus Velutina also known as the Eastern Black Oak, Yellowbark Oak.
This particular tree has been damaged by caterpillars as evidenced by the gnawed leaf edges.
What is the difference in a Black Oak vs Red Oak? The BO has leaves with 7 to 9 lobes while the RO has leaves with 7-11 lobes. Their bark is also slightly different with the BO having blocky and square bark and the RO having longer, slender furrows.

That all what my APP says
