I sprayed it around 40+ oak trees and all of my pipe fence to kill the St. Augustine for almost 20 years. It only killed the grass that I sprayed it on.

So I just bought a huge jug of the farm works stuff from tractor supply and put roughly 6-8 ozs in 4 gallons and sprayed some stuff here at home Sunday evening and nothing is even getting close to dying
      What did I do wrong?

I use their compare n save off brand at 41 percent and its lethal. I always use a surfactant.

How long ago did you spray? In the spring it takes a bit longer to cook but within a week it should be browning. By 2 weeks it should be dead af. In the summer this process speeds up.

The best kill I ever got was when it poured its butt off 2 hours after I sprayed. It didn’t spread the chemical either. Could be lack of rain has the plant in non absorbent mode also.

          For hand spraying use 2.5oz/gallon.

Give it a week or so. That is a little weak on the mix though.

Need to be around 10 oz but have patience. It isn’t diquat, it’ll take a few days before it looks hurt.

Glyphosate is a systemic herbicide that works by translocating phloem through the plant. If the plant is not growing or semi dormant it takes awhile to kill it. It's best applied to growing plants. This is the reason it has a hard time killing mature plants.

What is this diquat you speak of?
Does it work well on ditches and fence lines? What ratio do you mix that per gallon of water?

                          Diquat Dibromide

It works great, but doesnt kill the root. It is also a desiccant so it dries out the leaves and causes them to fall off.

It will creep a little, but not bad. I do the same thing with mine.

                                My first thought .

OP. I was raised cutting st Augustine. Biggest water waste in texas. Chinch bugs love it too. I would put artificial turf down instead. Seriously.
