I’m 1.5 hours south of Galveston, I remember Rita headed right toward me then took a hard right turn and went toward the tx/Louisiana border, I got zero wind and 100 degree temps out of that one. Ike hit Galveston dead nuts and was the size of the Gulf and got 1.5 inches of rain and winds of 50/60mph at the most.

All of which is what happens if you stay on the west side if the storm.

                hurricane season 2022

Is there an international component to the NHC? Why spend the money on recon if its going to crash into Mexico so quick.

I could sure use it here. That front yesterday brought lots of rain but not to huntsville. Not a drop. Got a loader coming this week to dig it out further.

I'd be lying if I said I knew why they fly a storm not destine to hit the US. But, I'd bet we do it because we are trying to confirm the storm will do what the models predict. And the data we get from each storm gets added to the models, which in turn will provide more and more accurate models in the future.

At least that is what I assume they do. I really don't know.

Looks like 99L is getting it's act together. Lots of warm water, low winds and a nice spin.
