Mine have been like clockwork… in the Fort Worth area, They move in around Valentine’s Day (2/14) and they are usually fledged out by the second week of May.

At the end of May, I open up the box, clean out the cedar shavings and leave open until the following January. This keeps the squirrels out. Then in late January, I will fill half the box full of pet cedar shavings.

Good job Casey! I enjoy a little part-time ornithology.

Where did you get that music from? Excellent musician. I'ma guessing the wind? The melody has a ring to it.

Pretty cool stuff. Thanks for the info on owl boxes. In other areas where we have lived, we would have great horned owls around most of the year. But where we live now, we have screech owls and some other type of owl, they only show up around our house for a few weeks every year, then we never hear them again. Strange thing we have burrowing owls, which I had no idea were in this area, but I have numerous game camera pictures of them and game cam videos of them.

It would be nice to have the owls stay around more often.

Owls are such cool birds. They always look like they know more than me.
If a Border Collie or an owl stares at me, I immediately go full on Forrest Gump.

We've watched several brood of owlets raised in this knot hole over the years. They're amazing to watch as they fly back and forth, hunting and bringing food back to the nest.

I've taken hundreds of photos of them over the years. This one is from 2 years ago.

                Great photo!

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

Man that's pretty cool. And a great pic!

We used to have a couple hanging around our house. Really neat birds. Unfortunately hawks killed them. Kinda weird.

You inspired me with this post. This afternoon, I built an owl house to place down on the river in my back yard. Thank you.

I think of it as a gift.
