Not a church key, but vintage bottle opener from the early 50s, again from gramps. He knew his way around a tavern. This was a classic brand, sponsored the Cardinals in the 40s and gave Harry Caray his start as an announcer.
Uhm , takes a good sized opener to get the job done right there.
Back to the Church Key- we also used them to open cans of Hi-C fruit punch or Hawaiian punch cans as a kid.
Suckers were like 32oz, made of steel and stayed open in the fridge once the two triangles were punched in the lid. One to pour, a smaller to vent- similar to the oil can.
I also keep one in my truck, in the kitchen, and in my tool box...you just never know.
The GI can opener is not a church key, but it's a handy little opener to have. I was not in the military, but I had one as a Boy Scout. Actually, the small is is the P38, and the P51 is the larger version that is about 2" long.
