    Bowfishing

    Hello all,

I just got into bowfishing about a year ago then this year i've gone every day for the past two weeks after school. so far in two weeks me and my buddy have shot over 200 fish!!!
I was wondering how many others bowfish on here?
where is your favorite lake or river to fish?
    Recurve of compound?
    AMS, Zebco, or freeshaft?
    Pictures?

recurve is fine for most situations..and definately AMS. We used to use zebco's, they are pretty dangerous plus the string is to light

I use a recurve, and AMS Fish Hawk 99% of the time. I am also setting up an Oneida Screaming Eagle for big fish. See post "my attempt at water camo"

All my rigs are set up with AMS retriever reels. The Oneida will be rigged with a slotted retriever reel and float.

As of today I haven't shot any BIG fish but not for the lack of trying!!!!

I have 3 recurves and an Oneida all set up with AMS retrievers. I shoot in the East Fork of the Trinity especially when they release water.

Been bowfishing for 17 years. Had 2 bowfishing boats before I had a drivers lic. All my set ups are 55lbs recurves with zebco style reels. My currents boat is a 2006 20' express with a 115hp yamaha, 9 lights and a 7000w honda generator and I think a 82lb trolling motor (had a fan and never again). I fish fork bob sandlin, cypress, toledo, trinity, sabine, and a few I won't mention biggest gar to date is 6' 7" 103lbs. Best shoot was 4 men 3hrs, 1860lbs of carp... And we didn't bring all of them in

I've been bowfishing for about 40 years. Recurve with AMS is the only way for me. I like the Muzzy tips that unscrew a little so you can flip the bar forward, drop the fish and get right back in the game. Good luck!

we used to tromp up and down the guadelupe as kids bowfishing after school. Our main setup was a lawnmower battery in a backpack, and one poor sucker would be stuck with 'light man' duties. We got creative after a while - got tired of shooting them with bows so we built some big nasty spears and used those for a while. Occasionally made the trip down to Choke and went for gar in a little 17ft John boat with a 35 HP motor, lots of good times.

I haven't done it in quite a while, but have found some good spots for it up here in CO. Currently shopping around for a new rig. AMS reel is the way to go. You can get by on the zebco for a while, but you will eventually want to upgrade.
