Smart (camera) Doorbell - which one?

Wife wants a doorbell cam, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm not sure which brand/model would be right for us as there are so many options with various capabilities.

What brand and model do you recommend and why?

whatever you do, get one that's hardwired. CHarging the battery is a pain in the d!C&

I have used Ring for years and have not had any issues. I do however use the rechargeable batteries. I purchased a few extra batteries and changing isn't an issue for me.

Just installed my first one. A Ring and I'm very impressed. Conversations on the street can be heard and very clear video. Definitely hardwire it. No more keys, works with thumb print or code. Get the gateway and do remote entry, change code, etc.

Have the ring now for years. Best investment ever. You can set your motion zone on your phone after install. I went hardwired on mine.

I have blink cameras around my house.

We have a Ring rechargable battery model and have been happy with it over the last couple years.

I do agree that if hard wiring is possible, that is a better option as you won't need to worry about recharging the batteries.

With that said, our batteries go for about 2 months before needing a charge. Sometimes a bit longer as the amount of activity does have impact. Charging the batteries is very easy, but your doorbell will be offline for a few hours while the batteries charge. The Ring App will notify you when the battery power gets below a certain percentage. I don't consider this much of a hassle at all considering removing/re-installing the batter pack is literally a 1 minute chore.

Ring also makes a decent flood light/camera that can run on the same App.

I have a blink doorbell camera from amazon and have been happy with it. Batteries last about 6 months apparently, I installed it when they came out in late October and just got the warning that they are running low. Just takes AA batteries. I also have a few of their outdoor cameras and have been happy with them, they're all on the original batteries from August.

I have a Ring and have had no issues in the couple years it’s been on. I finally had to buy a few extra batteries because the originals wouldn’t hold a charge.

I have a ring that is hard wired- it works great. I got it on sale for $40, but they generally run about $65

We've had Arlo cameras for years. Added the doorbell a year or two ago. Works great. My son has a Ring. Pretty much the same.

I have the Ring spotlight on the front door. It picks up cats and a fat dove that hangs around. Waiting for something better to come out...
