    Pool Guys Question

I'm having a pool/spa put in at my house. my spa will be propane heated but the pool will not. the spa will be around 6'x7' and we'll probably only need to heat it a few times a year. I'll also have a gas fire pit, but the gas will only be used long enough to get the wood lit. What size propane tank do you think I'll need for this? will a 120 gallon be big enough to not have to get it refilled every time we warm up the spa? I really don't want to have a big horizontal 250 gallon tank in my back yard.

I have a propane spa that gets heated probably a dozen times a year. We also use propane for gas stove top and tankless water heater. Have a 500 gallon tank that gets filled about once a year. Not sure if that helps. But I'd go bigger than smaller if price difference isn't that much.

You will want bigger unless you like filling it. Keep in mind that 120 gallon tank doesn't hold 120 gallons.

I would go bigger than 120 and have the tank buried so you don’t have to look at it.

I'd also saw go big. My house started with natural gas on the pool heater. Now house heaters (2) and stove. I would've done the instant hot water also, but when the electric tank went out I was in too big of a hurry to make that change.

Have a spa on a 250 gallon tank. That is the only thing on it. We heat it up 10-12 times a year. It lasts 2 years easily.

I'm not a pool guy but u can calculate BTU output of your heater the gallons of your pool and fuel need to raise the water from a certain temp to desired temp.
Few variables like outside ambient, daily sunlight etc.. but you can get a good idea.

There is a 100,000 BTU in a gallon of propane, most spa heaters are 199,000 BTU. You will use about 2 gallons per hour with the spa. That is also dependent on the efficientcy of your heater. So call it 2.5 per hour, the log lighter might use .3 gallons per hour.

I have the same set up and for spa heating only mine last about the same. Maybe a little less but that’s just so I don run out at a inconvenient time.

Mine definitely last longer than what I thought it would.
