Well I got layed off a couple months ago and I have had no luck finding a decent job. My dad moved to Cali about 2 yrs ago to work at a nuclear power plant in San Luis Obispo, he's only there as a temp but he's makin alot more now than he was working at the power plant in glen rose. Anyhow, he suggested that i move out there with him and he'll get me on at the power plant... well i thought about it and the plan is in full swing now... I'm driving out there june 8th... i just wanted to see who has been there and what they think about it... i'm kinda nervous...

California has higher pay due to higher costs of living. In addition to that it is a liberal states with all that comes with it. Versus Texas which has a lower cost of living and is conservative. The gun and hunting laws could not be more different between the two states. I've had a chance to move there on numerous occasions and turned down the opportunity every time. Good luck with your decision just make sure you weigh all the options.

It's a strange place, but I knew a guy really well that would come to SA for my company and work. He was a master hunter judge for the field trials for retrievers and flew all over the country doing judging. Anyway he said that despite what I believed hunting does exist there and there are quite a few sportsmen out there, just that it wasn't quite as prevalent around the big cities and such. The way he described things it didn't sound so bad. Keep in mind the elevated pay is offset by the elevated cost of living. I also know some other people with my company in the IT department out there and one guy was telling me how he'd been on a waiting list for a condo for several years and how it was basically a tiny cell and in the neighborhood of $2,300/month or something. This is all 3rd party info relayed so FWIW but a few of the other IT guys were talking about the housing that day and most of them had been searching for a very long time for housing. Oh yeah and I work for a home builder and we see people fleeing Cali constantly, last several years had tons of Cali buyers.

Paging Bill in San Jose. Since he lives there, he can give you the best insight.
From my POV, if you are single and can maybe take a 3 or 6 month contract, it might be worth giving it a try. You could live with dad and save the $$ you would spend on rent, so it wouldn't be so expensive. If it doesn't work out when the contract is up, I'm pretty sure Stephenville isn't going anywhere.
