I hate being cold. I need to upgrade some hunting gear for cold weather, but don't really want to wear a thousand dollar outfit while hunting. Should be heading to Kansas this year and need something that will keep me warm. Starting with base layers on up, what have you found that works, besides 500 dollar pants and jackets.

Base layers are the most important thing for me. Merino wool is great stuff, and it doesn't necessarily have to be from a "hunting" brand, so you can branch out into like hiking and backpacking stuff. Also good socks. I am a huge fan of Darn Tough. They are pricey, but last forever and don't stink. -
I hunt Iowa and wear the following: two merino layers on the legs (or one and jeans) and insulated carhartt bibs. Two layers upstairs with a flannel shirt and carhartt quilted zip hoodie coat. I’m perfect to single digits easily.Comment
