State Inspection on Diesel_Check Engine light

Reading on the internet (I know, dangerous), but it appears that even though a diesel truck state inspection in Texas is safety only, it will be an automatic failure if the check engine light is on. The code for the light is a glow plug which is not a priority, especially in warm months. I wasn't planning on having that fixed until I had a real reason to have it in the shop. Is that your understanding from inspection shops too?

    Thanks

You're going to the wrong shop.

I don't have a diesel but they have never looked at my dash. I've had check engine lights on plenty of times. In fact my daughter has a chevy 2500 van with both check engine and abs lights on. Passed inspection.

Yup just depends on the shop - bad thing is once it's been cited you can't get a pass till it's corrected. I heard you can pull your dash cluster and put a piece of tape on said light takes about 5 min. on a 2001 truck don't know about newer ones prolly even quicker!

I passed inspection, with a check engine light on no problem. My def tank heater went out. The guy said it’s a safety inspection. Not an emissions check.

Depends on what county you are in.

Better question is why can't Chevy make a headlight that will last as long as my ford check engine light? Been on through 3 inspections!

I pull mine into the bay and work the lights, horn, etc, as I'm asked to. They verify the VIN on the door jamb and then hand me the print out. I never leave the truck and they don't get in it.

State Inspection on Diesel_Check Engine light

Go buy a cheap code reader . Clear the code when you pull in . Never had one fail for a check engine light . Now window tint is a different story .

Go to take 5 you don’t even get out of your vehicle.

A diesel truck inspection is a safety inspection only. It shouldn’t matter that check engine light is on. I would clear it with a code reader, then go somewhere else!!
I’m sure you can go to autozone or Reilly s to get your code read then have them clear it. Go straight to a different shop nearby and get it inspected.

He's right about the first part, as long as you pass the Safety inspection you're solid. You can fail everything else and still get your registration.

I would go back to those idiots let them show me where that light will fail inspection!!! They are just wanting to fix it for $$$$ and then pass the inspection. Also report the AHs.
