how many school districts are doing 4 day weeks?

we have been looking to move from rockwall and found that farmersville isd is on the 4 day school week calendar, i googled a bit and see that athens is also but couldnt find a good list of what other schools may be.

both of my boys love the idea and i admit, i do too, the additional time you get for hunting, fishing, vacations, etc, is well worth it IMO.

we need to stay within an hour or so of rockwall, so athens is probably not an option, but i wanted to see if any of you guys knew of any other districts we could look into, we do not want to be back at another 6a school and would prefer 4a.

Never even heard of the format? K-12, or high school only?
Seems like that could be a burden for working parents

farmersville is k-12, off on mondays.

looking at their calender its not every week, there are a few here and there were they go on mondays, and i was told that they can schedule some mondays as bad weather make up days.

i agree it probably doesnt work for everyone, but my wife has a flexible schedule and can work from home if she wants so it could work for us.

IMO- it won’t work for the vast majority which are dual income family’s and work 5 days/ week!

My wife and I both work from home and have flexible schedules and it would still be a burden, specifically with our 2 youngest, soon to be 2nd and kinder

The cost of child care during all the times that public schools are closed is going to make some year round private school options more financially viable.

Not as common in TX. Quite a few smaller schools in LA that do it. I think it is awesome. And I would love to work in a school with 4 day weeks.

Many working families have a significant added expense in the summer for daycare. During the school year, daycare services might be needed for a couple hours after school each day, however, summertime, requires full day care.

I agree that moving school to 4 days per week will just be an added burden to working families.

If the number of school days are decreased should people expect a decrease in School taxes on their property tax bill? Should teacher salaries be reduced by a prorated amount based on the reduced number of days required to physically be a work?

Reducing the school week isn't going to cut the cost of education nor is it going to make the kids any smarter.

the school days are lengthened by 35-45mins to make up for the extra time. they are still getting in the minimum hours mandated by the state.

also, i saw that some of them offer some mondays as "optional," where kids can come in for tutoring and or make up work.

Here in East Texas it is becoming more common with three or four districts going to each each of the last several years, mostly smaller 3A or less schools. I personally would love going to it myself, although as an ag teacher I would probably be working that 5th day most of the time anyway. I do know of one school that told their ag teacher, no do not come on our day off and work on projects with kids, it is time to be off.

Interestingly enough many of these districts have a high low socioeconomic population that you would think would have issue with childcare for that extra day, but so far in every school it has been implemented in I have not heard anyone having issues (there were complaints before it was adopted, but since adoption the complaints have been very few from what I have seen)

This! Horrible idea. And summer daycare costs are through the roof.
