    Shock Gobbling Turkeys

I haven’t turkey hunted in 25 years and really miss it. Techniques have probably changed but if we didn’t get to camp early enough to roost some birds we would begin moving about before daylight trying to locate roosted toms by getting them to gobble on the roost giving there location before fly down. Things that we used to make them shock gobble was owl calls with our mouth, elk bugle, air horn, and sometimes just slamming the truck door worked well. If nothing else worked one of my hunting buddies could squall like a peacock and every bird on the place would gobble. Hunted a property close to a rail road track one time. When the train came through if he blew his horn every bird on the place would sound off. What works for you guys these days?

I hunted a property in Oglesby years ago that just about any loud noise would get the birds to shock gobble. The place I hunt now in DeWitt county, I can get them to shock gobble to save my life. I've tried owl calls, crow call, coyote howls/barks and car horns. They are tight lipped on our place..

      Crow call works well.

If they are hot enough they will literally shock gobble at anythinng, a car door shutting a distant horn honking to call cattle, a crow, a owl, a gun shot for another hunter.

Owl and crow seem to be the safest, surest way

It's mating time and I had them gobble at me while changing game cards today. Have more Turkeys than I have seen this time of year.

Owl call for me early. Later in the day I use an obnoxiously loud and raspy box call that I hand made.

Slamming truck door…thats funny. Seems like a best case scenario.
Ive a turkey hunt coming and my owl call is broken. I practice owl and crow mouth calls and hoping my work pays off.

                    Good push Yall.

All the above and we are near a train track with a crossing that trains must blow their horns three times as they approach. That'll do it also

Crow call is my favorite, I shot a coyote last weekend literally 30 seconds after I watched them fly down. It worked well and I had birds gobbling in every direction at my gunshot. Sometimes in the evening I will drive to the top of a hill on my lease and honk my horn, I've also seen them gobble at the ranchers siren he uses to call his cows to feed.

A .22 shot and a toot from a whistle has made them gobble for me ,

For something different, try a pileated woodpecker call - they work great. Something about that shrill sound really gets them to gobbling.

Just about anything will work. I love when they shock gobble to something more natural, like thunder... or especially other gobblers gobbling!
