    ATTENTION TPWD app issues

I joined a lease in Sutton county so I wasn’t familiar with their turkey season.

On Wednesday of this last week it showed me that turkey season starts March 19th and ends May 1st. Clearly says Sutton county and spring season.

Chatting in another post and Bisch mentions it starts on April 2nd. Hmmm. Sure enough. App now shows spring season starts on April 2nd for Sutton county. I took a screen shot on Wednesday to send to my dad.

Coulda been bad had I went and popped a turkey. Did all things right. Checked season. Looked normal. Place is south of i10 so I figured south zone and it sure enough confirmed. I searched by county then animal.

So double check the app. Apparently it isn’t always correct. Maybe someone can give insight on how it changed.

Won’t let me post the pics. I can text them to someone if y’all can post them.

From Jason Hardin, tpwd wild turkey program leader.....

New this year are some changes to TPWD’s north and south turkey hunting zones.

“We did change our north-south zone. Moving forward, the boundary is consistently along Highway 90 from San Antonio westward for both seasons,” Hardin said. “It used to transition and go further north. So, you might be in the north zone in the spring and south zone in the fall, and it was creating some confusion.”

TPWD reorganized the fall south zone to include Goliad, Gonzales and Wilson counties.

Hardin noted in the spring, 22 counties that were in the south zone will now be in the north zone: Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Brewster, Comal, Crockett, Edwards, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hays, Jeff Davis, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Medina, Pecos, Real, Sutton, Terrell, Uvalde and Val Verde.

The main issue is the app giving the wrong dates.

You also mentioned the place is south of I-10 and you figured you were in the south zone. So actually it's an ap issue as well as a new change to the actual hunting season as well. Nice catch. I wonder about tpwd myself as well.

              ATTENTION TPWD app issues

I have another friend who has property out here and he was ready to pop a couple birds this weekend too. We went back and forth on this. I’m glad you posted the TPWD response on this so I could show him. I just didn’t want anyone getting a ticket because TPWD had it screwed up, and you know it would have happened and probably still will to someone. When I called the GW, he didn’t explain the change at all, he just said “Nope, it’s April 2nd”.
