Feedback on newer Kawasaki Mule 4010 Trans 4x4

Will be buying a new side by side in the next 6 months or so. Based on my limited budget and some initial feedback on this site I'm leaning towards the one in the title.

This will be for mostly hunting/work such as pulling trailers around the property, hauling firewood, filling feeders, building materials, general type of stuff that you do on 21 acres. A little concerned that I might be disappointed in a lack of power and lack of speed. I'm a mechanical idiot so when I read the specs on the website all those numbers about engine size and torque don't really tell me anything.

So does anybody have one of the newer ones that can give me some real world feedback? Thanks.

I guess "worried about speed" was a bad phrase. I've been on some older ones that felt like the top speed was 5 mph and I needed ear plugs due to the RPMs. That's been 10-12 years ago. I don't need to go fast...but don't want to feel like I'm always in 1st gear in a ford pinto going uphill for 3 miles.

Chew, my folks had the 4010 diesel till yesterday when they traded it in for a Mule Pro FXT. This is after they borrowed my DXT while I was out of town. When researching them I saw a big dealer in New Mexico that makes aftermarket shocks for the pro quit stocking 4010’s that he had supped up after all his business went to Pro FXT’s.

It rides better, seat is more comfortable, and you don’t really have to mod it out like the 4010 to get off-road capability. It’s a few thousand more but if they last like very other Kawi we’ve had it’s a solid investment. I still kick myself for buying a second ranger diesel instead of a Pro Mule.

Yeah...that was my second choice...but seemed like a bigger price jump than that. Maybe things will change on the budget....but for now it's not looking like the Pro FXT is an option.

The 4010 is a good machine but seems like every little rain they were getting stuck on the property or getting high centered.

If you have a manicured property the 4010 will do just fine, if it gets sloppy I’d go with the FXT. The other thing is the engines are easier to work on and more reliable. The gas is a cherry which is in just about every micro car in Asia and the diesel is a yanmar.

There’s a pro mule group on the book of faces that sometimes a deal will slide thru there, I can send it to you in a bit.

I’ll trade speed for reliability any day. Love my 4010. Top speed 25 mph ish. She’s an older tank but so am I.

Never been stuck or high centered either. Lol

I have a 4010 mule gas mule. I've been extremely satisfied. They have the longest warranty vs competators, at least when I bought mine. Had a clutch problem and they fixed it immediately. It's a workhorse. I use it to spray prickly pear. The tank full of water is 250 lbs. and you don't know it's back there. Four passenger is very convenient. I had a 3010 previously and recommend both.

                      ^^^THIS all day long^^^
Love my ‘09 4010. She’s just a single seater but is a beast and will go anywhere I need her to in 4wd. I’d like to have the trans to haul all the gkids around at times but with the enclosed cab and heater I ain’t complaining in the winter.
I’ve never understood the folks ragging on the Mule’s speed. I’ve never felt the need to go that fast on an off-road trail or a trip down to my pond. 🤷

Buddy I hunt with has a mule 4010. It has a 2” lift and 27” tires.

Loaded down with 4-6 dogs, 2-3 grown men, a dog box, at times a pig or 2, it has yet to high center or big down in some sloppy fields, or pastures when we hunt.

He hunts 2-3 days a week, more during grain season, and hasn’t gotten stuck yet. 25mph is the top end I’ve seen with his loaded down.

I have a pro FXR. 45 is top speed. No lift, factory tires.I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten mine stuck. One day I’ll get A-Arms and bigger tires. Winch has been a saving grace for me.

Loaded down, his seems to carry the weight much better.

They are a reliable work horse. Just imagine if the front tires were mounted the correct direction what it would do. Lol

                              Bobby,

I am in the same boat. Looking at prices for the used SXS's I looked at MSRP on the 4010 & Pro FXT. about 7K difference.

I drove Chance's a while back and it does drive a lot nicer. However, I don' have the needs he has for comfort.

I figure I will buy new 4010, put 2K in upgrades and be a happy camper.
