Now he’s gobbling his head off right behind us

I doubt he’ll come to the field edge though

Headed up to Red River Co for some scouting this weekend. From the cameras, they started strutting a couple of weeks ago. Saw a few birds while driving around, and had several gobbling this morning near camp. I got a couple of areas ready for my pop up, and ready for the 22nd when season starts. You fellas hunting Rios are killing me, this late season sucks.

Menard birds talked early and basically went silent after fly down. Never could get one fired up. It got warm and breezy pretty quickly today. It was great to be in the woods again. Something special about listening to a roost wake up.

Hope to be back at it soon. Keep the reports rolling gents!

Opening morning for me at our Lavaca Co farm. Just down the road from Cousin Gary @Gary I haven't hunted here in 3 years and gobblers were is the same ole roost as always. They were worked up and I had this big gobbler hit my decoys immediately. It was over before all the birds had even got down. I stayed and watched a hen calling aggressively and another gobbler hung up at around 75 yds while he strutted. Another couple gobblers went off the roost to the North and on neighboring property. It's a one bird county but I enjoyed the show. He was a very mature bird with 10 1/2" bird and a very small second beard. My first ! Spurs were 1 3/8".
My #3 gobbler this spring as I killed another decent bird down south last weekend but he was all wet after flopping around in the dewy grass so pictures were crappy. One tag left.
