I hear ya. Feeder prices have jumped way up the last year or so. I was lucky and bought my 1,000 lb Lamco’s before they all got expensive.

That being said, it will probably be the last feeder you ever need to buy. They will last a lifetime and raccoons can’t steal the corn. That will save you money every night.

Stand and fill the only way to go

I have two feeders similar to what kmack posted above. One was built for a 55 gal barrel. The other fits my 85 gallon barrel. I can fill the larger one from the back of my Mule 610. If you can weld and fab then you can build these. I would make sure that you build a metal cage that fits the entire bottom section. This way coons are not able to reach the spinner plate.

Have 2 stand and fills and 2 barrel style. Blew my right knee to pieces on a ladder filling a feeder. A torn acl cost more than a deer feeder

Lamco low n throw is one of the best feeders out there!

But converting the ones you have will work too. Just go look at some new ones to get ideas of how to fab things up.

With the Bucees ASF s&f they were reaching the spinner plate to flick corn out. Emptied them quickly. We added expanded metal on all 4 sides to increase the distance they have to reach. It solved the issue. However I'm sure they are out there tonight evolving with longer arms.

Y’all need to look into the Texas Wildlife Supply feeders. I can’t think of any way a feeder can be beater than these. Varmint cage. Eliminator plate. Solid steel. I’m running a 600 lb and a 1000 lb. They come turn key. Battery. Solar panel. “The Timer”.

The 1000 lb next to an 800 lb lamco timed protein.

We've had the Texas wildlife supply 600lb feeders for 6 years now and have had no issues out of them.

I have a capsule feeder that has run for several years flawlessly, no issues with any type of critters tearing it up. I also like the lamco low and throw, I won't have another barrel feeder/crank feeder even if it were given to me.

Bought a All Seasons Stand & Fill last year and really like it.

While we are on this subject, I need a protein feeder and cant decide between free choice and timed. Or broadcast.

Was actually thinking about another ASF Stand & Fill for the protein but not sure if throwing it on the ground will waste too much? South Texas ( I probably wouldnt put on the ground where there is more moisture)

That is definitely a well built feeder. Probably my 2nd favorite right behind Lamcos.
Two things I can think of that make the Low and Throw better are:
                              1. It’s on skids and easier to move around if needed.
                              2. Accessibility to “The Timer” is easier.

Definitely don’t throw your protein on the ground! If you can afford it then a free choice feeder is best for the deer. If you need to budget like most do then I recommend the Lamco trough feeder. You can see one in Trophy8’s post (25) above. I’ve had one for at least 6 years now and they are rock solid.
