    Lake Whitney and area attractions

We rented a house on Lake Whitney over spring break as more of a central hang location for our families. We are planning on going to Glen Rose to the dinosaur deal for a day but, are there any other activities around the area to go to. We have kids ranging from 4-9yrs old.TIA

Not a whole ton around the lake for kids other than the lake that I can think of. We generally just go to be at the lake but I’ll ask our friends that live here full time.

Where abouts on the lake did you rent a place?

I agree with Fossil Rim. They also have a behind the scenes tour that is really cool. Make sure you check the website and call ahead for availability.

When you get hungry theres's a lil ol eatin' joint called West Shore Grill.....good stuff. Not far from the dam. Whitney cafe over in Whitney is plenty good as well.

You aren’t terribly far from Waco on that side of the lake either. Some good museums in Waco and the magnolia stuff. If you play golf White Bluff is on the North end of the lake.

Bosque Museum in Clifton has an excellent replica of the 2nd oldest burial site in north America that was found just a little ways down the river from the Whitney dam. Called The Horn Shelter . There's a ton of data out there on the net, on this dig. As well as documentation right up to the 20th century during the dig. The property owner was one of the sight excavators. And has some very interesting stories. The burial site is estimated to be 11,700 years old.

Al Redder discovered a Paleo-American burial site along the Brazos River in Bosque County. The find included a very rare collection of burial goods.

                        .
