    Portable Generators

I am in the market for a 10-12kw portable generator - will primarily be used as back-up power for a house. Any FIRST HAND experience with the brands listed below? Pros / cons?

    DuroMax
    Westinghouse
    Champion

    Thanks in advance.

I have the smaller 4500w Westinghouse inverter generator. I use it to power 30amp camper primarily but also plan to put an interlock onto house so I can power furnace blowers and a few other small things.

I have probably 60 hours on it and it's been great so far. Hasn't missed a beat and the electric start is nice.

I have the Westinghouse 7500 dual fuel specifically for powering the house if necessary. Love it, love the electric start, the pull start is easy too. It also has remote start in case you can't be bothered to go outside and turn it on yourself. Checking oil is simple, and I haven't noticed any appreciable oil consumption.

Only downfall is there is no throttle, so it only knows one speed! I also prefer the fuel fill to be towards one edge of the tank, and on my model it is right in the middle of the tank. And I could solve this problem by buying a better fuel can.

I have had a Westinghouse for several years, never any issues. When not in use, start and run for 5 or 10 min. to keep battery charged. Use some form of gas treatment.

I bought the Westinghouse 9500DF last year after the freeze and it's great so far. I installed an interlock switch on the house for emergencies, and have been starting it up regularly. I hooked it up and ran the house during the last cold snap as a test and I'm pleased (I have gas heat, so not a huge load). Once it gets warmer, I'll try it out with the A/C running and see how it does. Runs on gasoline and propane, so I should be covered.

Have a Champion 9500, it's big, it's heavy, and its loud!!! Other than that, its preformed flawlessly.

This is the model I have been eye-balling. I appears a few others commented favorably on the Westinghouses as well. Thank you.

I bought the 4500DF Inverter with remote start fob last summer, once they became available again. Haven't started it yet. So, I really can't say much about it. But it does have all the features I was looking for. The thing about the DFs, the LP side can be changed to NG. Lots of YouTube on how to convert a LP to NG. I have NG for heat at the house. So, it only makes sense for me.

I have a Westinghouse. So far so good. Runs like a champ. I run it about once a month when in storage, only use treated gas and alway cut the fuel to kill it.

I have the 13kv duromax. It has worked flawlessly, runs off gasoline or propane from the factory but after a bit of searching the World Wide Web, I found a conversion kit, bought it, installed it and now I have the option of natural gas as a fuel source as well

I bought the 12k. Which kit did you end up buying?
