    2011 135 E Tec question/issue

I have a 2011 135 ETEC, with about 120 hours on it. It has been in the shop for a while and they cannot figure out the issue. Everything looks good when it’s hooked up to the computer. They haven’t done much, kind of slow moving but I am wanting to get out on the water ASAP.

Seems simple and gas related in someway.

Here is what I am dealing with:
Everytime I take it out to the lake it starts perfectly, reverse it off the trailer and back out away from the ramp. Put it in neutral and it idles fine, but when I go into forward at the low rpm used to pull up to the dock it will go 5-10 feet then die. From there it becomes difficult to start. When it gets going again, same issue. The boat will go in reverse all day in low rpm, that’s the part that confuses me.

Once it get it past the low rpm forward, basically accelerating fast and not giving it a chance to die, it runs like a top.

This becomes a huge problem when loading the boat on the trailer, it can die over and over and sometimes I just use the trolling motor to get it close enough to the trailer, then crank it it.

    Any thoughts?

So it runs wide open well but won't idle?

      It won’t idle in forward.

Injectors are a known problem with those motors but doesn't sound like that's what's going on with yours. Have a 90 etec on my rfl and it's ran like a top. Only problem I've had was an injector

Check the throttle cable because it's easy but I'd check the throttle position sensor and be sure it's secure and not cracked. There's also an exhaust backpressure flap thingy that's known to cause issues as it ages but I apologize I can't remember the name of it. Hit the etecownersgroup.com website also, Barnacle Bill's techs will answer your question.

I bought a 2012 Etec 115 from a guy for my pontoon barge I built. His shop had replaced several injectors and he finally got tired of it and repowered. He told me he'd be running WOT and an injector would cut out and engine drop RPM hard. Sure enough after rigging everything out and quick test runs I took her for the first real test hunting at Lake Amistad and it happened to me, over and over it'd run hard a few minutes then drop hard but idle.smoothly. After our hunt coming back in after dark it happened and I pulled the cowling and took it apart floating in the middle of the lake, saw one of the two washers on the TPS was missing and asked my buddy to hammer down the throttle while I watched. After about 30 seconds at WOT the sensor cap popped up enough for the internal piece to pop back to idle position and killed the throttle. Once it popped back to idle the cap would then reset and pop back into place. I ziptied that sucker down and we ran it for 4 days solid smooth as butter no issues. I looked at the receipts that guy passed along from the shop with all the records and he'd paid the shop about $3500 for what a 15 cent ziptie would've fixed. Every time it would start happening to him the shop would replace an injector and do a bunch of other stuff. I patted myself on the back for that one. LOL

Going to visit the mechanic tomorrow morning. Bringing this to the top for more ideas on the possible issues. Thank you all for the feedback.
