    Need good luggage.

We bought a couple of sets of hard sided luggage for a 2 week Alaska trip and cruise. It got us there and back home, but went right out to the curb soon as we got back. I’m looking for some luggage that isn’t expandable. I’m thinking that’ll help with water resistance since they’re gonna be in the bed of a truck often enough. I was looking at Samsonite Novaire which isn’t cheap at $385 for a large and carry on bag. They seem pretty good but almost every review said the hard sides gouged and scratched easily enough to warrant looking elsewhere.

I’m not against soft sided but want good water resistance. I prefer to not be expandable since that zipper always seems to leak like a sieve.

Anyone have any recommendations? I don’t mind spending a little more for quality. But I work in a chemical plant, not a board room. I’m fine with my yellow boat bags from Bass Pro, but the wife, not so much. She’s about to take a girls trip to Tahoe, so I’d like to surprise her with something nice.

Yeti bags are awesome, and they will take some serious abuse.

I traveled a lot when I had a day job. I never found anything the airlines could not break.

We've had good luck with the hard-side AWAY rolling bags for plane travel. Otherwise, I use a waterproof northface duffel.

Why did you throw away your luggage after one trip?

I was told once that you never see experienced salesmen/travelers without worn looking luggage. You can spot the newbies.

Pelican and a few others make hard, rolling cases like their gun cases. I know a lot that use them for regular luggage

I have the Sitka nomad and rambler. Both have held up well. Soft sided but haven’t had any issues. The nomad is big and I have heard some airlines will hit you with a oversized charge.

My wife purchased the Away aluminum carryon for me last year. I really like it.

Away's Aluminum Carry-On suitcase is ideal for a quick getaway with durable aluminum hard-shell, 360° spinner wheels & interior compression, built to last.

L.L Bean is the only luggage I travel with.

I traveled every week minimum 2 flights week usually much more than that for years. Look at ogio. Lifetime warranty that I never had to use. I don’t recommend the hard sides stuff. Just pack your breakables in the middle of your clothes and you will be fine.

Ive got 4 eagle creek bags that need to go in for warranty work. All with zipper issues. Its not there fault exactly, they have been to Africa a dozen times, Europe a dozen times, Etc. they are well traveled. Warranty is good, but you have to ship it to their repair shop on your dime, which is expensive these days.

I flew to Africa and back every month for 3 years with my hard sided samsonite. It never broke. Its scratch all to heck, but held up. Doubt its water resistant.

I have 3. They've traveled the world similarly. So far no zipper issues but I've been very careful not to overfill them. All seams are in great shape and the wheels have taken a real beating without ever breaking. Past luggage wheels handles and seams broke after a few long trips. These have held up much better than anything I've had before.
