    Breeder pen effect

We have a 1000ac high fenced ranch next door to our lease (we are to the S/SE).
About 50yds off the fence they have (5) 2ac breeder pens with about 50+ does total.
I do not know if they introduce the bucks or they are IV.

Question I have is, when these does going into heat, will there be an effect on the bucks on our place?

That’s a valid question for sure. Bucks pick up a hot doe by scent trail normally. I’m not sure if air born estrus scent 50 yards away would would cause your bucks to ride the fence or not. I’m in for some answers myself.

Your bucks will probably be pacing back and forth at the fence looking to get to them.

I would have to say if a doe is in heat where their nose can pick it up they will at least be trying to locate her, so I would expect some bucks on your place to be patrolling the fence line at some point.

Within a day of them pulling cidr s out your bucks will be pacing back and forth. That is what is put into the doe vagina so they will go into heat.

Short answer is yes. Charlie Alsheimer was a biologist that raised and studied whitetails for 25 years in a high fence. He said he had a big field/pasture on one side of his place and the woodline on the other side was over a hundred yards away, I can’t remember just how far. His bucks would pace the fence when the rut was on and the wind was right, and he couldn’t even see any deer on that place. So yes, if the wind is right and humidity is up they will smell the does, but human intrusion will probably have a hand in how they respond.

When I had a lease in Runnels Co. I saw plenty of bucks wind check a feeder and never get within 75/100 yards of it unless something interested them.

Probably have some affect. If that was my situation, I’d find a good vantage point and observe the fence line when the doe are in estrus

I would put up a blind just of fence line.

Call up Kerr WMA. Maybe they will talk to you about it. They have breeder pens.

I would not build a blind near the fence. I would find a well used game trail that leads to the fence and hunt it when the does come in heat.

THIS is why the question was being debated.
One of the heaviest deer trails leads straight to the fence where the pens are located. Place has not been hunted in 10 years & owner doesn’t hunt, so he was no help.

Appreciate the help guys - we needed logical help & not just our “wishful thinking”.

The high fence next to us we see more does trying to get in to get bred than bucks wanting in.
