Oh ok. That’s not too bad then.

And Docmay, that is freaking awesome man! How long ago did you do those hunts?

I got to guide one Bowhunter for Ibex out in NM. He asked me what his draw odds were. I said get your bags packed! This was for the January hunt back in 2017.

Yep. Your chances of getting drawn, went down a lot, after that show came out.

I can say, I am not going to be in the drawing. All these years, I thought Ibex were 200 lbs. to 300 lbs., judging by the pictures I have seen of some killed in their native range. Seeing one carried like a big jackrabbit, turned me off on ever wanting to spend any effort on trying to get one.

Not sure if there’s outfitters doing any otc hunts. Either way they return your draw fees fairly quickly after you are unsuccessful. But like others have said you’ll never draw if you don’t put in and anything worth having doesn’t come easy.
I've heard of off range oryx, but not off range Ibex.

The quality of ibex is way down, as well as the herd numbers compared to just a few years back.

Rifle hunt is very difficult, so bow nearly impossible. Think the success rate for bow hunters that are drawn is less than 1%.

If you do get drawn, have a chopper drop you off on top and stay a few days. Ibex always go up when pushed.

I think the words Steve used was “ Labrador retriever” and there is no way in h e l l I could pop one from 400+ yards away

I would apply till I got drawn if I was a little younger
With a rifle. With a guide.
                      Sounds like a great adventure.

Wonder what the population number is in NM?

To me, it's about the adventure of the hunt and a very unique trophy. In reality, it looks to be about the size of a small white tail.

I'm happy to kill a cow elk if it's in the right location providing more to the memory.

I've read that the population is steadily declining due to tag numbers and or commercial hunters which is the way NM wants it. Seems they're afraid that growth in numbers and possibly leaving their small home range of the Florida Mountains would lead to competition with native sheep. That's the kiss of death for any exotic.

Still huntable numbers and a unique hunt on what's some rugged rugged country.

If you have not seen the mountain range that they live in you really need to go see them. To hunt Ibex with a bow you had better be in shape!!!!!

10% draw odds might sound like really low odds - but that nothing compared to most of the Elk odds in good units if you are going in as a NR w/o an outfitter. Or antelope!

Low odds are fine as long as there is game there. I went to Montana where we didn't see **** and then went to AZ where we saw a lot but still came home empty handed. I'll gladly come home empty handed as long as I see something.
