Whats your MOS? Something transferable to civilian service?
I didn’t make a career out of it but Field Artillery crew-member was a hard sell lmao. If you don’t have transferable skills my advice is get a degree or trade. If you got one that isn’t getting you hired get another that is and asap. Never too late. Hazlewood eligible?
Good luck.

I am an Electronics Warrant Officer. Currently stationed out of Hawaii on a National Security Cutter and am in charge of the Combat Systems division. That basically covers all the electronics, installed weapons, and IT equipment on the ship.Last edited by Mavrick_ET; 02-07-2022, 09:52 AM.

I've already been to TAP class and have updated my resume. I will begin my VA claim stuff soon with the Montgomery County location.
What I need from the TBH community is any advice or constructive criticism from Veterans and/or anyone that has made big career changes. I have started to apply for some jobs but it seems employers are taking a very long time to reply.
I would also like to build my "network" (per my TAP instructor) and I don't know of a better place than TBH!! So if you have a moment here is my LinkedIn page. Feel free to connect with me if you like.

I am not sure if the Coast Guard allows it but I did the "Hiring Our Heroes" fellowship program. Basically it was 90-120 day program in which you were still on active duty but on PTDY to allow you to do an internship with a host company. It was a great experience on the whole and really opened my eyes to what working for a Fortune 500 company would be like.... after the program I ended up taking a job with a small business in Houston but the experience at the large company was great. I was stationed in Kansas but was able to do my internship here in Texas. Send me a PM if you want more information and I can get you in touch with the guy who was the coordinator for Texas.
Holistically, my best advice is to start the process early. I let my bosses know about 18 months out my timeline and they were awesome about everything. It is the guys who suddenly decide they want out and have done very little planning that do not always land on their feet.

you get that look like "oohhhhh...interesting..."
Then awkward because they have nothing to add to that conversation.
They're left with "so, shooting a cannon." Not knowing how much is really involved in Field Artillery, and no real way for you to convey it.Last edited by 47; 02-08-2022, 08:15 AM.
