Barbed wire fence cost / questions

I bought some property last year and now getting quotes to replace fence lines.
Nothing from the existing fence line is salvageable as it was neglected. I would do it myself but my back pain prevents this happening.

    Couple of questions:
    1. In todays market what is the going rate per foot for 6 strand?
    2. What questions do I need to ask contractor to ensure it’s done correctly?

    Thanks in advance.

We just completed a section of fence that was five strands with T posts where we did all the braces and elk jumps. Materials were about 5 thousand to complete a mile and a quarter of fence. The fencing crew was another 3-4 thousand.

Just placed an order for 8K more T posts and wire that was right at 97 thousand. Crew will be about 3-4 K per mile. These costs are up about 30 percent from last year.

Depending on what you are trying to keep in or out. I just put up half a mile of 5 strand barbed wire for about 3500 bucks in material but I’m keeping cattle in. I did the labor myself. Where are you located?

We just did some barbed wire five strand cross fencing. The variables included
Price of pipe line posts, driven line and corners, and dozer costs to clean old lines
I would have some discussion on first wire off the ground and distance between wires when you do get a quote you like. My bottom wire is too low.

Get several quotes. Then take the time to go see a fence they're building. Look close at creek crossings or low areas that can get water running when flooding.

$3.50/ft would be the cheapest you'll find is my guess. But lots of factors.
          1. Length of fence
          2. Rocky? Will they have to drill holes for posts?
          3. Thick brush, open fields, how long it will take them to clear old fence line.
          4. Will you want them to haul off old wire and how much you want them to clean up/pile dozed brush.
          5. Number of gates, entryways and bends in fence (each bend takes bracing)

Talk to local ranchers to find good builders. It can be a pain and you need to research. Like most things they're all pie in the sky when talking to them but once you hire them it can get sloppy. Get things in writing.

$3.25-$3.50/ft all materials and labor supplied
              $1.40/ft labor, we supply materials

I just received these numbers this week from multiple fence guys down here south of SA

I am a fence contractor in the brazos valley area. Give me a shout if your property is in that area!
