    Cottle County

My family has a place in cottle County and we have some clear cuts that we have plowed and planted in wheat before. This year we are wanting to plant some of them back in native forbes and grasses. I was wondering if anyone knew where to get seed?

Native American seed, Turner seed, and Bamert seed all have good native mixes. I like Bamert (out of Muleshoe) the best. Stick with a native mix. Don't go too heavy on switchgrass, it can be pretty invasive.

If you can find one, drilling the seed works best as compared to broadcasting or discing. Natives are planted very shallow (gamma grass is a little deeper). Just make sure the seed box doesn't contains ANY leftover non-native seed. If you can't get a drill, very shallow disc, seed, and drag.

You guys are great. I definitely want to stay away from switchgrass in the mix for the clear cuts. Wanting to increase native forage have plenty of cover.

Possibility for seed provided and no-till native seed drill to borrow.

Our requirement from USDA was an 11-seed Native mix from Turner Seed. Cleared the ground and planted with a Brillion seeder with the double rollers on it, which are notched. It does a great job on shallow planting.
              Good luck!
