    2022 F350 Gear ratio

Thinking about ordering a new truck. With the new 10 speed what are your thoughts on gears? I tow a 13,000lb fifth wheel occasionally and various boats and other trailers. In my 2019 I have the 355 with the 6 speed and it pulls great. I was hoping to get a little better mileage empty with the 331 but I do not want to give up the power. With the increased HP and 10 speed what would you do?

    I have a 22 F350 6.7 3.55. Highway I was showing 18.5 unloaded, 16 mixed driving. I pulled a 24’ gooseneck with about 10k combine weight and got 14.5 with 10th gear locked out.

I went 3.55 cause I knew a leveling kit and 37’s were in the future. I would recommend 3.55

Might just be me, but go with the lower gears.

That 10 speed transmission is going to make up at least most of what you’d save with the taller gears in a 6 speed, without sacrificing power. That engine makes enough HO and Torque for either, but there’s no such thing as overkill in an HD truck.

2020 F350 C/C FX4 Long bed with the 7.3 and 3.73 gears and 10 speed. Unloaded is about 14 doing 75 to 80. Pulling anything drops to around 11, BUT i did not buy this truck for the mileage, never have and problably never will.

Do some reasearch on the 22f250s before u buy one. I have one and it makes a weird noise from the rear end or something upon deceleration. The dealership can’t track it down, and blames it on the fact I have a lift kit. Bds 4in w 37s on 20s w 2in wheel spacers. The lift excuse is total bs from the dealership. My truck has 3k miles on it. This is a problem a lot of the new trucks are having w the 355 gears. You can Google this issue. There’s a ford tech on YouTube trying to go about solving the issue but cannot seem to locate the origin of the noise either. I’m happy w the truck but absolutely livid ford or dealership ships are denying the issue. It’s not any fun and especially what your going to pay or go thru to get a new truck

I got 3.55 in my 2022 F350. It pulls great even with 37's. If your staying with stock tire size and just occasionally pulling that 5th wheel the 3.42 would be fine. The 10 speed in amazing and a huge improvement over the 6 speed.

Depends on how heavy and how frequently you will be towing IMO. The real mileage delta between 3.55 and 4.30 gears is probably not much. If you plan to be regularly towing heavy loads, I’d go with the 4.30’s.

I don't have the new 10 speed, but if I was buying one, I would definitely go with the 3.55. My current truck has the 3.31's, and it pulls great, but I wouldn't mind the 3.55's. I imagine with the 10 speed, you would never have to be without power, no matter what gears you pick.

I have a 20 F-350 with 3.55, i don’t haul everyday but often. 12k pound mini hoe & 24’ cattle trailer loaded & i worry more about stopping than i do about power. It will take me as fast as i want to go.

I have 2 2022’s DRW 350’s with 3:55 gears. I use pen and paper to track my mileage and pulling 16k my mileage on both range from 8.5 to 11mpg. Unloaded 14-16 mpg. One has a norstar service bed so that’s quite a bit extra weight. Not sure why they quit offering 3:73’s

Pervis I hear the same noise usually from a very low speed. I’ll see if my dealership comes up with anything next service.

                        2020 F350 6.7 Dually with 3:55. I wish it had 3:73 to be honest.

I have a 21 250 with 3.31, 10 sp transmission and 37s and am perfectly happy with it. I don’t haul extremely large loads, but it does everything I need and has waaaaayyyy more power than my 19 250 with same size tires and 6 speed transmission.

Just ordered a 22 with everything the same as my 21

I have a 21 with 3.31 gears. I pull a 13k fifth wheel with no problem at all. Plenty of power. Never have paid attention to fuel milage when loaded but I'm going to guess around 11-13 and 16-18 empty. I have a heavy foot.

My 2020 3500 Cummins and 6 speed Aisin pulls heavy loads so much easier than my wife’s 2021 f250 6.7 with 10 speed and 3.55 gears
