Plumbers - question on glues

After repairing a broken pipe this weekend I need to replenish my PVC glue.

I never gave it much thought in the past, but what is the difference or what do you recommend in the colors?

Blue
Blue rain and shine
Clear
Red
Black

I'm pretty sure I do not want the black - low pressure stuff. Is there a non-ultra fast drying glue, something I can take 10 seconds to push fittings together and still adjust a 45 or 90 to the right angle?

I have 2" pvc, 1" pvc, running from a well pump.

Clear or the grey heavy bodied glue is what you want for dry conditions with plenty of time. If I had to pick one glue for all cold water applications I would use blue glue. Try the grey heavy bodied stuff

I have never had any issues with the purple primer and the clear. I have used the blue all weather and it didn't hold up.

Fixed alot of connection that where blue rain and shine. Havent fixed near as many leaks when purple primer and clear was used.

I wont buy the blue. Now the next person coming along may love it but not me. Not a plumber but done more plumbing then i want to....

For water lines (non-CVPC) or pressure lines we use purple primer and either Blue Rain-Shine or "Christy's" Red Hot Blue Glue.

All other non-pressure we use purple primer and clear medium body or grey glue

Yep, this right here!! One other thing, if you're just buying some so you have glue when ready for an unexpected project, get that little kit that comes with a can of glue and a can of primer in the smallest container you can get... Use it for the project, then replace it with new cans... If it's something you only do occasionally maybe even yearly, good chance the open glue won't be good when you need to use it next time... ALWAYS keep an fresh, unopened can of glue ready to go... Primer, no problem with it keeping a long time as long as it is tightly capped... Use channel-locks to open/close and it will last longer!

Yes Sir. I have plenty of primer, but I left my glue jar open and it dried too much. Hence, I'm replacing.

My plumber brother tells me there is no difference in clear vs. purple primer. Its only tinted so inspectors can see it. And blue is only needed when youre in a hurry or its wet

We did all the plumbing at our deer camp and my shop with clear glue and primer.
