    Jeep Liberty 3.7L Pros/Cons

I am curious if any TBH'er has had experience with 3.7L Jeep Liberty, more specifically 2011 Jeep Liberty 4x4.

I hear bad things about the 3.7L and then I hear people love them. If you have any experience good or bad, please let me know. I ran across a deal and we are looking at it for our daughter. I just want to make sure they are reliable and more importantly safe.

No first hand experience. I recall that engine having some fairly widespread issues with valves and some other stuff. But I also see a lot more of that Jeep running around today than I would have ever expected.

If you Google common issues, I'd bet you find the main issues.

Ain't high on my list ,neighbor had one with computer problems galore...Now the Cherokees from early 2000 and back into 90s and farther with Straight 6...Were indestructible .My GD got a 2012 wrangler 4door ..Shes not hard on vehicle..and Motor HAD to be replaced a 100000 cost her 7000..

My son had the 3.7 in his Ram 1500 Single Cab and it was a peppy little truck. He ignored the check engine light, temp gauge, check temp light due to a failed thermostate and ruined the engine. Most of the problems with the truck were not engine related but the rest of the vehicle. I would be wary of any Dodge/Chryler product that old for my child driver.

I bought an older one from a TBH'r and 2 of my kids put over 100K miles on top of the 90 K 'ish it had on it already with no issues, mechanical anyway They beat the heck out of it, I gave it away to a kid that used to do some work for me and he is still driving it. I am not sure how many miles it has on it now. The only mechanical issue I had with it was a starter replacement in the 7 years the kids drove it.

My daughter did the same in high school. not nary a problem with it but it is slow and it does burn the gas for a small SUV.

I had one with the 3.7 and I blew the head gasket around 220K. Terrible fuel mileage but I never could get it stuck no matter how hard I tried.

Lifter likes to bind up and break the head, also breaks the valve cover too.
Rule of thumb in my world is, don’t own a dodge engine with a 7 in it.

My wife bought one new and kept it for less than a year. On slick streets it was REAL loose in the ***** end. She said it was the most dangerous SUV she’s ever had.

Mother had one and we rented one up in NC, one year. Twitchiest steering I’ve ever experienced in a truck. If I took my eyes off the road for a second, it seemed like I was heading for the other lane. Parents hated theirs, for the same reason. Just something to think about, if you test drive it (especially important if a teenager will be driving it)...

2012 was the second year for the 3.6L V6, and early versions of that motor had common problems. The 3.6L replaced the 3.7L(if I remember right) for most Dodge/Ram/Chrysler vehicles in 2011.
