    TAC set up...

My son and I are going to shoot the San Antonio TAC, and I'm trying to decide if I'm going to run my hunting set up or run something better for long range shots. I know that the idea is that this is hunting practice, but I'm not sure that my normal arrow/point combo will allow for 60+ yard shots.

I had an extra sight lying around so I bought some light weight clearance arrows from wal mart, re fletched them and sighted in with the back up sight. 100gr tips. Fun shoot!

Sounds like the reasonable thing to do. People talk about having a minimum of 2 dozen arrows. That's pretty steep if you're using premium arrows.

I had a dozen and only ended up breaking or losing about 3-4 (glad they were walmart, think i paid $20ish for the dozen) on the longer shots, My sight goes up to 100 and there were some 100+ shots so i was guessing on those lol. You can always scoot closer to the target if you want.

Am going also, and we are in the arrow deliberation stage also. Thinking of going ultra light micro diameter around 300gr with low profile vanes. But going to try some of my hunting setups over the next few weeks to see how they do at those distances.

I shot the Sitka course last year with shots out to ~118ish. I took my hunting set up (vxr31.5 72/29.5 w540gr fmjs) it depends on your capabilities but my set up is maxed at around 100yards, but 2 dozen arrows is excessive IMO. I didn’t lose or break any arrows last year, I did however donate a field tip to a tree. It’s a fun shoot and I’ll be there again this year but the premise is to shoot it with your hunting rig to challenge yourself. Good Luck and remember, have fun!
