I've with reliant. Every time I renew my plan, the cost goes up. Last plan was 2 years. Recently went up about 2 cents to 14/kwh. Every time I shop it around I find that the cost is right in line with everyone else. This time was no different. About the only places really cheaper after digging through all the gimmicks were little companies I'd never heard of.

Energy ogre did not save me much but it makes it easy and I did save a little vs me choosing off of power to choose.

I just look at power to choose and pick the cheapest one. Look for fixed rate plans only. I have been doing this for years. I also only look at 3 to 6 month contracts which are the cheapest. I switched to Frontier yesterday for 9.2 cents/kWH across the board for 500/1000/2000 kWH usage. This is for the Centerpoint service area.

My experience has been the little guys are just as good as the big suppliers.

Energy Ogre will go to bat for you if the provider screws up.

Right now octopus energy has the best rates for my usage type in Katy.

Funny thing is that I just tried to log back on and see if the rates changed from Jan to Feb and it told be the weren't allowing any new enrollments until after the cold snap.

I will try again next week to see what they are doing.
