    Certificate of Origin?

Anyone ever buy a car or boat from someone that just had a certificate of origin?

Is this a big deal? Guy won the vehicle so it's supposedly not registered and he just had a CoO.

I have bought trailers like that. Very easy to title a trailer. I’ve also bought a boat on here that had no title because the guy I bought it from never got it from the original owner. The original owner could not be found and I filled out the TPWD forms and got that title. Can’t help on cars.

My son was looking to buy one that had a CoO. It had been brought here from Canada. We researched the titling process through the state and it seemed reasonable, but then talked to a friend that is a dealer. He said he wouldn’t touch it with a 10ft pole. Apparently he’d purchased one before and no one with the DMV could figure out how to complete their own process! He ended up trading it off without ever getting it titled…

MSO is typically what it’s called with regard to cars. Manufacturers state of Origin. It’s like a birth certificate before a car is titled in a state. Don’t confuse registration with title of ownership

All the FEMA trailers bought from the US GOVERNMENT the first time was sold this way. I had no problems getting the real title. COO looks like a title also.

This is a new boat. Supposedly never been titled into anyone's name.

I don't want to step off in a pile of crap!

We bought a jet ski from out of state in 2020 with a similar situation to what you described. Was pretty easy to get it titled and everything set up with TPWD. I did have to go to the district office though.
