I just did my own personal field test sitting in a blind this morning waiting on my giant buck that I’ve only ever seen on trail camera pics to show up. (As usual a doe and two yearlings so far). Anyway I looked through my Steiner Predator 10x50, and my new to me (bought used on TBH) Swarovski 10x50 EL. I give the advantage to the Swaro’s in the all important first five minutes of shooting light. They are both far superior to the Vortex pair I have in the same 10x50 magnification. And all three are far superior to the Nikon, Bushnell, and others I’ve had in the past. As stated above, I’d suggest patience, save your money, buy once and cry once. And w/ that and $1.50 you can get a Dr. Pepper.

OP, just my two cents. Since you said weight is not a concern, I would get a good pair around $500. Then get yourself a solid tripod with the remaining $$$.
You will glass up more than you could ever imagine once your stabilize your glass with a tripod. I think Vortex has glass (The Viper maybe?) around $500, or like others said, chase down a good used deal. The higher quality glass helps at daybreak and dusk. Beyond that, they are all very similar mid day.

The Meopta MeoPro air binos are very nice. I love the open bridge design and the glass is top tier. For not much more $, you can step up to Meopta's flagship MeoStar glass. I have hunted with all of Meopta's binos over the last 3 years and the MeoStar glass takes the cake in low light conditions. I am always amazed at pointing something out in low light conditions to a buddy who can't see what I am seeing through his binos. 1 friend borrowed my MeoStar B1 Plus 8x42 binos for a day and later ordered the 8x42 and 12x50 MeoStar's. He has converted a lot of other hunters to Meopta as well. I recently saw on-line the 12x50's for the same price as 10x42's! Reaching out to Doug is always a good start too. Drop me a note with any questions.

friend of mine showed up with binocs on a tripod while we were shooting our 22's on steel from 100 to 170 yards ... when it was his turn , i spotted for him ... they are kowa sv 10x42 . they were so sharp , you could easily see impacts even when bullets hit right next to each other ... i was so impressed i bought a pair ... our water tower by the house is 450 yards away , and i can see clearly all the wires going into the cell tower equipment on them...
they are around $250 ... they are a tad clearer than my 10x40 steiners.
kowa is a known brand amongst bird watchers ... you may want to look through one and see if you like them ... might save you some major coin for something else more important like renting a satellite phone in case you get lost or hurt in the mountains ..
that's what I did back when I went to colorado... my 2c.

If 1K is your budget then I would stick close to it and get some really awesome glass. Big differences between middle of the road glass and upper end glass.
I do agree a tripod would be beneficial, or a window mount.
The low light performance is where the upper end glass is best.
You might get by with 8x but really 10x42 would be great for you.
Bunch of great brands all mentioned above. Try to find a spot to look through some at least.
