A coonhound with a horn bawl mouth (voice) will sound like that. Especially if they are barking lost. Had a walker hound once that would do that when he lost the track and was lost himself. He would let out long howls so I would answer back and he could take a short cut getting back to me and the truck and not have to backtrail himself.
Any coon hunters around that area?

Enough for me to not want to be out in the woods. Very similar sound that was on a show I saw a year or so ago, I think it was on the History Channel, The Proof Is Out There.
