    Between Hondo and Bandera

Just curious when i was a kid we hunted a place that was owned by the mummy family. It was probably roughly between Hondo, and Bandera. Is there still good hunting in that location, or is it subdivisions now ? I haven't been out there in years.

Between Hondo and bandera there are still big ranches and more land than houses. No subdivisions I know of. Several big high fence ranches along 173. I drove thru there Sunday afternoon and saw deer out an about the whole way so I’d imagine the hunting is still great

Yep Still alot of farm land and HF.

drove that highway one night back several years ago about 11 ish. I counted over 150 deer in the ditch between Hondo and Bandera. Not something you see around ETX. And reminded me of the night we use to drive out to our lease in San Saba. Deer everywhere after dark in the hot evenings.

It's still fairly wild in that area where the larger ranches are.
I had property out that way since the late sixties and most of it hasn't changed since way back then.
Back then I owned land closer to the lake near the Flying "A" ranch and enjoyed the hunting for about 25 years, and then the development encroached on our place and I threw in the towel and sold it.
Just wasn't the same when all you heard was people slamming doors, talking, and car alarms going off, and the hills around there sounding like everyone had a dog kennel, and of course the poaching.
We can only hope those people who own that land will continue to keep it out of the hands of the developers.

I was in the area last month. Went up 173 to Bandera possibly looking for a house to buy. Prices were higher than i expected. Wanted to come back in March to look around a little more and to hit Sabinal for the hog rodeo. Can't find a room around Bandera cause of a motorcycle rally. I really like the Bandera area. I imagine the 11th st bar is hopping on a fri/sat night. The silver dollar bar is my kind of place.
