Oh I have no qualms about how you or anyone hunts. Sittin in a box on a bait pile is just not for me and I do not consider it hunting. More like shopping. That is my opinion though.

Pretty simple for me. The places I hunt don't hold really big deer. I shot a nice one (150+) a few years ago but I think he was lost.

There are 3 companies that advertise in the SCI quarterly paper that will take/buy your trophy collection. Not sure how it works and they may not want a measly collection like mine, but the wife knows about this if i pass before she does. there is a rustic furniture place east of Rogers where i live that has mounts for sale and from talking to him, it is a pretty big business. If I die before my wife, selling them or giving them away will not be a big deal as she will not need the money hopefully. Once I am gone, I really do not care. The only critters I will get mounted form here on out will be anything from Africa are a very large whitetail (doubtful where I hunt) or possibly an exoptic I do not have.

Like I said earlier, the heart rate determines if I will try and shoot this animal, score means nothing to me along with what others think of the size or score.

There is SOME merit to your opinion but seems that you have lumped us all together that hunt “ in a box over bait” meaning that their/our trophies are not trophies at all in your eyes. The meat and potato’s the way I see it is the OP is trying to convey the age old statement that “ A Trophy Is In The Eye Of The Beholder” and should not be judged by us.

This I am on board with. A trophy for me is something most of you would laugh at. I, like some of you have already stated, just determine a trophy not necessarily by what it is wearing on it's head. Again, I do not diminish those that choose to hunt differently than I do. One day I'll be to old to scout, hunt, and climb trees in the wild woods and may have to resort to sittin in a box. I'd rather do that than sit on the couch.

Add trail cameras to the list of things that have ruined hunting.

Could you even imagine our grandfathers sitting around the campfire and having this conversation back in the day?

It's basically a weenus measuring contest for lots of folks....deer breeders and TTHA started the down hill slide back in the early 90's. Everything is Trophy Buck now.

The dudes that kill big deer on Public land are the real kings!

I killed my first deer in 1968 on Skeeter Tulley's place in Mills county between Goldthwaite and Brownwood. That was 53 years ago.[emoji54]

I was sitting on a 2x6 nailed into the fork of a Live Oak with 2x4 steps nailed on the trunk. We didn't know anything about feeders or game cameras or cell phones or social media back then.[emoji1] You just found a good looking spot and built a tree stand or ground blind or simply sat down by a tree.

I killed my last deer about 3 weeks ago about 300 yards from where I am sitting in my recliner right now here in Iowa.

Those days many years ago were the best of times for me....then...but these days are the best of times for me now.

I remember every detail of that first deer 53 years ago, the last deer 3 weeks ago and all the ones in between as if it happened yesterday.

I don't know what any of them would have scored in "the book", but I do know they all scored a bunch in "my book".[emoji106]

I find it hilarious how people b**** and moan about others and the way they hunt, why they hunt, or what they get out of hunting. Reminds me of the mask holes that think everyone else should wear a mask to protect me.

I hunt because I love everything about it. I love all types of hunting from killing a monster buck to removing does, I love the chase, I love the hard work, I love the primal instinct of you vs nature, it’s all a blessing to be able to do and it consumes my life. I love seeing pictures of others with a deer they killed, I love watching videos of someone’s hunt they filmed to share, I love hearing others stories. If it’s all about inches to someone so be it that’s what they like. If it’s all about mounts, so be it. I love having my animal mounts on the wall, it’s artwork for me as well as preserving a memory (kind of a visual que). As for they just all disappear when we’re gone, I guess I’m the exception. When my grandfather passed myself and all 7 of my cousins had to draw straws for grandpas heads he had on the wall as those were meaningful to all of us as memories. One day I’ll point to those antlers and tell the story to my kids about their great grandpa and this special buck or bull.

What ruins hunting is others trying to impose their ideas on others trying to tell them it should be experienced this way and not that way. Be happy for someone who is outside enjoying the outdoors and not sitting watching tv or participating in a downfall of society. Don’t get me wrong some hunting is ridiculous and should be called out, like wasting meat, you kill it you better freakin eat it or that’s just bloodlust. Hunting is a lot easier and enjoyable when you stop worrying what others might think or concerned with how or why someone else is hunting.
