    Trout stocking

Anyone know if the ponds that were scheduled to be stocked on 11/24 actually were? More specifically Burke Crenshaw park in Pasadena? Wanted to take the kids this weekend, but it’s been pretty warm so they might have postponed it.

I'm not sure how you would find out. This year they're stocking it a lot of times but with just a few each time. I've caught a lot of bass in there but I can't catch those stupid trout for nothing. Good luck.

I found a number for the park staff, but it’s obviously too late. Was hoping maybe somebody already caught some. Get Berkeley mouse tails with a size 6 or 8 hook - I don’t remember but they’re barely big enough to hook through the ball of the mouse tail. Tie hook directly to your line and put a split shot 12-18” up from the hook and let it sit on the bottom. You’ll limit out. I tried in-line spinners, jigs, corn, the special “trout bait” kernels, worms, etc and only caught 1-2 through different ponds/trips. Some old man started fishing by me one day and caught 3 within 10 minutes and gave me a few of those hooks/tails. I immediately started catching fish. [emoji6]

Thanks for the tip. Those things are my nemesis. Any suggestion on color?

I’ve only used yellow/orange and bubble gum/white. Caught them on both, but where I was at the time it seemed like they liked the y/o better. Good luck! Post some pics once you start catching em.

              .

I saw that as well. Last year I had the chance to be able to call the week before my planned trip, and they didn’t stock according to plan because it was too warm even though the website said they would. I wasn’t able to call earlier this week.

I try every year. Maybe I'll crack the code on em this year. Thanks.

I've always just used, small balls of Velveeta cheeze....

One thing, I did find out. None of those fish are raised in Texas.
They are all imported, from different hatcheries in the U.S.
According to Mike Homer, "really nice, and informative" gent.

We toured the freshwater fisheries center and Athens this last summer. Pretty sure I remember them saying that they raise the trout there for the local releases. If you'll look at the tpwd website at the stocking dates, it has under each town what place is stocking the trout. You can call them and they will let you know it stocking is running to schedule.

This. I'm pretty sure they all come from Texas and are grown each year. That's why they're so small.

We usually don't have any problem catching them when the time comes. I rarely keep them anymore cause they seem to taste like dirt

Could be we got spoiled on cold white river fish
