If Kelley thought they had a realistic shot at winning a championship, then he wouldn't be leaving.

True - showing up to the playoffs and possibly getting blow out by tOSu or GA wouldn't help his stock

He left while the leaving was good, after another solid season

Kelley will be in hog heaven recruiting to LSU - finding kids that can play for ND is just a step below recruiting to the Ivy league

This is a solid hire for LSU - they didn't want to go take a chance on a coordinator, he's a football CEO, know football and how to run a program

On a similar subject. I feel like coaches leaving during the season is setting a bad example. It messes with the way the players are thinking and can completely ruin there mentality. Schools talk about loyalty, integrity, and family and when a bigger paycheck comes up coaches leave. I feel like all this stuff needs to happen in the off season, after the championship game, so no one has this hanging over there head during the season. Greed is a powerful emotion.

Anyone have some intelligent thoughts on this?

The players have zero loyalty, as evidenced by the portal. I see where it could be to a coach's advantage to hold himself to a higher standard, but certainly not a requirement. It's like everything else in the world today, everyone wants an easier way....lazy kids wanted the portal and they got it, so the coach owes them nothing, imo.

There should be a rule that doesn't allow a coach to be contacted during the season. August 1 to January 31 is off limits.

Why? Kids can bolt whenever they want...screw'em! They wanted the portal, and they wanted to get payed, nobody owes them **** anymore.

Random thought with the coaching changes this year:

Florida, LsU and USC were all hunting for coaches and LsU landed Brian Kelley, and USC stole Lincoln Riley. 4 years ago AM stole jimbo fisher from FSU… how come when Texas was searching last year with no competition they landed the stud himself Steve sarkisian?

If you sit back and think how 3/4 schools mentioned landed big fish, and 1 didn’t with really no competition in the coaching market it really puts persepective to the current state of some programs around here…..

Random thought with the coaching changes this year:

Texas took a swing at the biggest fish, Urban Meyer and while it looked good for a bit, he decided the NFL was his next gig. Texas was also firing a football coach in the middle of a pandemic where they cut salaries and jobs in the athletic department so the optics were not great to begin with. I do not think they had an unlimited, open check book to go hire with if it was not Urban.

Lincoln was not leaving OU for Texas, so that was off the table.

A&M got Jimbo by offering him an obscene (for the time) contract, so not sure how they stole him. Jimbo was already on the outs with FSU admin as well.

Edit: If Urban Meyer hadn't expressed interest in the Texas job and Texas thought they could get him, I am not sure Herman would have ever been fired. The problem for Herman is he didn't make any friends in the program and when it came time for people to stick up for him, there was nobody there. I do think there is a chance they would have stuck with him for one more year if Urban would not have been flirting with Texas.

Austin Stogner is in the portal from OU. That is going to be a great pickup for somebody, maybe the Ags as they lose Wydermyer.

Glad to see a report (tweet) from Walker Howard being all in for Kelly. I was wondering if he would bail with no coach hire for as long as O was a lame duck.
