I usually do the frozen milk jugs as mentioned above but sometime I take a 4-wheeler and don't have them.

Many deer and hogs shot with less than perfect shot placement every year. Everyone says give them several hours before tracking. Some of the animals don't make it far before dying. They are still cleaned and consumed when found. I wouldn't wait unless no other option, but they will still be good for hours. Smell test is all you can do. JMHO

No experience in that exact situation. I’ve killed hung, then cleaned 4 to 6 hours after killing in less than 70 degree temps with no issue. Always let your nose be the judge. I would hang in the shade instead of putting in the bed of the truck if possible. Hanging would allow better air flow to cool more and quicker.
