    Winch switch help, please.

4500# Traveller (TSC) on a Pro-FXT. Got stuck 2 mi from truck in KS last week (high centered in deep, narrow creek drainage).

    Switch sh-th-bd !

Cut everything loose and wired direct to battery and winch elec posts.

Got us out but now looking for a new set up. Didn't like the gawdy fact switch to begin with.

What rocker type switch can I mount in the dash that will handle a winch wired direct from battery, to switch, to winch.

All the rocker type I'm finding similar to my light switches say not rated for a winch.

    Thanks in advance.... D.

Maybe a switch from another winch company?

You need a relay between the winch and the switch IMHO. Then any dash rocker switch should work and that's how any winch I have seen is set up. Will take a hefty switch to handle the amps for a winch.

I may not be following right. But if I understand, the only direct wire switch that would come to mind is like a perko switch like you’d use on boat battery. That would handle the amps.

Did it have a relay that the other switch was wired to? If so use the switch wires and buy a winch rocker switch to put in the dash.

I'm looking for after market or another winch brand that will work.

I was wired from batt to big roll bar mounted double button switch then down to winch. Perty simple. But the switch had the capacity to handle it.
I basically want the same thing but dash mounted rocker type.

Don't know if they make one.

I'd get a wire/switch set with solenoids. You wench will need more amps than a rocker switch can carry. The wire set that comes with a jackplate comes mind.

I'm confused by your post, the factory rocker switch was not handling the winch but activating the winch solenoid box. If your just looking for a good rocker switch replacement I use a boat trim tab switch on my Jeep, it's momentary and will handle the solenoid load.

I can only think of one switch that could handle a winch's current directly without using a solenoid and that's a battery selector switch. It wouldn't be momentary and you'd have to be real careful not to use the "both" position. While it would probably work I would not recommend it.

                  Something like this would work.

                    I have a battery and a winch. Nothing in-between. I need the wires/solenoid-relay/and Ricker.

                    Thanks.
