    Pat Tillman Run

I figured I'd post this since people on TBH were aware of what happened to Pat Tillman serving in the Rangers. The annual memorial run in memory of Pat the proceeds go to the Pat Tillman Foundation goes down the street at the end of my cul-de-sac. This year I'm going to take the flag and wave it as the crowd runs/walks/crawls by.

He was a brave, local kid who grew up and gave all for his country.

    San Jose, CA - 2008
    Saturday, April 25, 2009

More than 6,000 runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators will participate in Pat’s Run San Jose. This 4.2 mile run/walk celebrates the life of former football star and Army Ranger, Pat Tillman. Proceeds from the race benefit the Pat Tillman Foundation and its Leadership through Action™ programs.

Pat Tillman's friends and family created Pat's Run as a way to celebrate Pat's legacy while raising awareness and funds for the Pat Tillman Foundation.

Patrick Daniel Tillman (November 6, 1976 – April 22, 2004) was an American football player who left his professional sports career and enlisted in the United States Army in May 2002. He joined the United States Army Rangers and served multiple tours in combat before he was killed by "friendly fire" in the mountains of Afghanistan. Details about the circumstances surrounding his death have been the subject of controversy and military investigations.

He is the second professional football player to be killed in combat; the first was Bob Kalsu of the Buffalo Bills, who died in the Vietnam War in 1970.

There was controversy about his death, and the question if it was mishandled by the Army because of it being caused by friendly-fire, and Pat being a high profile person quitting a pro football career to join the Rangers.

Some people in the past on TBH has questioned why Pat got (or continues to get) more attention than many other brave patriots who gave their lives for our great country. I can't answer that in a short writeup, and would rather not debate the topic.

All I can say, is 5 or 6 THOUSAND people ran this morning, and at the 3 mile point (of 4.2 miles), I'M THE ONLY PERSON THE RUNNERS COMING PAST ME SAID WHO WAS WAVING AN AMERICAN FLAG. Many came and high 5'd me or shook my hand to say thanks. I had our 3x5 foot, 48 state flag that flew over my wife's Grandfather's house (Pops was a WW1 and WW2 vet, God bless him) on a 10' PVC pole so I could really wave it and get some air in Old Glory. It was the least I could do in Pat's memory.

Here's one picture I took, people just kept running, walking, and moving past for 45 minutes. The young lady on the right was cheering on the runners, and helps to dispel the myth of all Cali girls being bathing suit beauties, and all anti-hunting
